Chanderi is a traditional textile characterized by its lightweight, sheer texture and fine luxurious feel. Due to this, Chanderi sarees are referred to as 'wovenair'Chanderi fabric is produced in the town of Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh by weaving in siland golden Zari in the traditional cotton yarn that results ithe creation of the shimmering texture. 

    History
  It has been found that Chanderi weaves have been around since the 11th century. According to historical recordsreferences in Indian mythology to the Vedic period suggest that Lord Krishna's cousin Shishupaintroduced the Chanderi fabric.

  In the beginning, mostlMuslim weavers practised this craftWhen Koshtweavers from Jhansi migrated to the town and settled down there in 1350, it moved to ChanderiIn the7th century, Chanderi was established as the hub of Chanderi weaves, when the Mughals established karkhana dedicated to the craft until 1677 when Aurangzeb ordered to shut it down.

   When the royal family of India extended its patronage to the craft in 1910, Chanderi weaves were revived. Gold thread motifs were introduced to Chanderi weaving during this time.

  Creation of unique buttis or motifs and the transparent osheer texture of Chanderi fabric are the two prime characteristics that distinguishes ifrom other handloom fabrics.

       The transparency of the fabric is because of the use of a singlyarn for weaving Chanderi fabric.

  Color palette of Chanderi sarees are predominately ruled by soft pastel hueshowever with changing timesvibrant combinationof red and blackturquoisand navy blue, fuchsia and white also exist.
