Craft : Kala Cotton Shaket
-
A patchwork shaket that puts three generations of Kutch craft on your shoulders ,hand-blocked Ajrakh panels in indigo and madder, pieced with striped handloom weaves, finished with patch pockets in contrast daana motifs. No two panels repeat, so no two shakets are identical.
The cloth is kala cotton: an indigenous, rain-fed cotton from Kutch, Gujarat, handwoven on pit looms. It's a dense, textured weave that softens with every wash and needs no synthetic blend to hold its shape. The Ajrakh printing is done with natural dyes in a 16-stage resist process — the same technique this region has practiced for centuries.
