Rajasthan’s appliqué work is done along with embroidery for providing additional touch of decoration. Appliqué work is performed on a variety of products like wall hangings, clothes, bed sheets, luggage, mattresses, and more. The basic fabric is light in weight and mostly white. Eye-catching patterns, colours, and forms are organised in a logical manner to create a lovely appliqué wow factor.

Applique is a western art form in which two pieces of fabric are stitched together and embroidered with metals, wood, or glass. Arabian or Middle Eastern people brought this art into India through trade interaction, and it has been practised by many since then, especially in Rajasthan and Orissa. The Marwari communities create the most prestigious Rajasthani Applique work. Rajasthani applique work is thought to have been inspired by the Egyptians due to the dense workmanship achieved by both genders. Along with the refugees, the delicate craft of applique and cut work, as well as the practise of obscure stitching, migrated from Pakistan to India.

Making an appliqué is a time-consuming process. The first move is to decide on the base colour of the fabric for the appliqué work. It can come in a variety of shades, both dark and bright. The base's form is then defined, such as a circle, rectangle, triangle, or oval. Leaves, birds, geometrical figures, plants, and gods are among the motifs. These motifs are then creatively stitched in various shaped/sizes.

Since ancient times, people have done this conventional artistic work in communities. It is passed on from one generation to the next. Experienced designers work on the more difficult projects, while younger or newcomers to the industry work on the simpler ones, such as border stitching. It acts as a decent training ground for achieving higher levels of performance and successfully completing more complex designs.

People must help to sustain this ethnic and traditional artistic work by buying Rajasthani appliqués, which will help to improve the livelihood of the men and women who work in this sector. It allows them to wear glamorous, exquisite smiles as a result of the reward and gratitude they get for their efforts.
